Cultural Historian Aundar Ma’at is a cultural artist whose work is rooted in the philosophy of Kuumba-Nia--.creativity with a purpose. Inspired by Marvin Gaye’s belief that true artistry awakens minds and reveals deeper truths, Aundar uses music, film, books, plays, and poetry to spark positive change.

“KUUMBA-NIA: Preserving Black History Through Film” Aundar Ma’at is a visionary whose work embodies edutainment—a fusion of education and entertainment meant to enlighten, uplift, and connect humanity. Through his art, he aims to help build a more conscious and purposeful world. Aundar has written, directed, produced, and performed original works across multiple disciplines, including theater, music, poetry, and the djembe drum. His stage play Message to the People: A Story of Malcolm X was adapted into a film. He also created the acclaimed documentary series Walk on the River: A Black History of Alamo City and its sequel, Walk on the River 2.0: The African Influence in San Antonio. As a cultural historian, Aundar has spoken and performed at events hosted by organizations such as the Dunbar Heritage Association (Seguin), SAACAM, Friends of the Carver Library, and Malcolm X Celebrations in Houston and Dallas. He has also worked with numerous schools, churches, and community groups throughout San Antonio. His contributions have earned him recognition including the 2019 Arts and Letters Award for excellence in the arts and the Courageous Love Award from the First Unitarian Universalist Church of San Antonio. Baba Aundar is a staunch entrepreneur; he is the co-owner of MelanEyes Media, The Pan African Cultural Community and SA BlackHistoryTours. |
