Film: Profiles of Promise: Back to My Roots
Nana Kofi Acquah (Instagram/Threads: @africashowboy) lives in Accra, Ghana, with the love of his life, Gloria, their 3 children, and a Boerboel. Having been born two hundred meters away from Sao Jorge da Mina, the first slave castle built in tropical Africa, he lived with his grandmother, who owned a pub where wayfarers, fishermen, their wives, and police officers would come looking for somebody to pour their souls out to. Their stories intrigued him as a child, so much so that he began writing poetry at age 10. Today, he travels across Africa photographing, filming, and writing for Airbnb, Getty Images, Oxfam, Barry Callebaut, UNICEF, UNHCR, The Global Fund, Americares, ActionAid, WaterAid, Facebook, and many others. Nana believes that Africa's poverty is perpetuated by the continent's portrayal in Western media and that Africa's future cannot truly change unless we first transform the narratives we share and how we tell them.
