Description: Father’s Day is a short film about Alakhe, a 12-year-old boy who is raised by a single mother. Being the nerd of the class, Alakhe is selected to give a speech for a Father’s Day school event. He decides to go against his mother’s word and sets out to find the father he’s never met, which opens a can of worms. Eventually he discovers who his real father is.
Filmmaker Bio:
Tumelo Lekena My name is Tumelo Lekena. I am a South African Writer and Director. A lover of movies since the age of eight, I began taking writing seriously in high school, constantly writing stories on exercise books until I discovered screenwriting in 2012. Born and raised in Durban, South Africa, in 2018 I left my cooperate job and moved to Cape Town where I received a scholarship to study at Big Fish Digital School of Filmmaking for 2 years. A month later after graduation, I landed my first job as a casting director for several months casting for commercials. It was here that I honed my directing skills, and I was inspired write my first short film, Father’s Day. The film received funding from three organizations, KwaZulu-Natal film Commission, National Film and Video Foundation and Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs. |
